Resting Spot

Project Overview

Expectations, pressure to perform, leisure time stress, fomo and deadlines are classic components of our modern society. The comparison with friends or strangers often distract us from our actual plans and ideas. The world is full of possibilities which can be overwhelming - especially in a city. With our animated short-film, our aim is to reach those who long for freedom of thought and desire an escape from the weight of societal norms

plot

An animated short film that explores the topic of mindfulness. Frida goes to her grandmotherโ€™s in the country during the holidays. Despite the serenity of the her surroundings in the tranquil country side, her mind remains occupied with the city - as even the gentlest breeze nor budding flower can hold her gaze for more than a few seconds before feeling the urge to snap a picture for social media. She cannot simply exist with her surroundings.

Resting Spot is heavily inspired by personal struggles, experiences and my grandma, who has always helped and inspired me to live a more mindful life ๐Ÿงก

making of

We combined frame-by-frame and vector animations along with the digital and hand-painted elements. We wanted the different hues of color to invoke an emotional response in the user. For example, the different tones of blue and soft yellow chosen for the mugs emits an element of warmth and coziness. Each sequence is meant to be its own piece of art - a notable element in each scene. The slightest of details were intentional, again to heighten the viewers ability to connect and resonate with the film.
